Get ahead with exam tutoring
I have a wealth of experience teaching English GCSE and A level to bright students. I know what is required of a top-band essay at either level and can quickly identify the reasons why a student might fall just under the band criteria to which they are aspiring. I can't promise that every student I teach will achieve a Level 9 or A* - this has as much do with ability and hard work as it is with good teaching - but I can certainly help you realise your own potential and take some of the fear out of preparing for exams.
Typically, students come to me because they would like help with one or more of the following:
-
structuring essays on set texts
-
improving exam technique (this is often related to the above)
-
developing analytical skills for set texts and/or unseen poetry (‘what is analysis’ is a FAQ)
-
how to integrate and make the best use of quotations
-
strategies for the Language paper (largely because the mark schemes for these papers tend to be very prescriptive)
-
looking at texts in more detail (this is especially true of A Level texts when class room discussion is constrained by time)

I have a small group of home-schooled students under my wing; the personal, bespoke nature of this kind of learning can be a great solution for students who are experiencing challenges at school, resitting exams or unable to commit to traditional schooling because of involvement in sports or TV.
“I feel very privileged to have had you as my tutor and mentor. You have inspired me, motivated and supported me and I genuinely think I could have got through the last hurdles without you. I leave with a passion for literature that will last me a lifetime – I am truly indebted to you.”
